Scenic Hudson RiverWalk Park

Located just 25 miles from Manhattan, Tarrytown NY is one of the most charming and beautiful small towns in New York State. This quaint town dates back centuries and is steeped in Native American and early settler history. You’ll be glad you read this!

The town’s lively Main Street is awash in outdoor dining and entertainment. It also draws international musicians, thanks to its historic Tarrytown Music Hall.

Cuomo Bridge

The RiverWalk is a planned 51-mile multi-use path along the Hudson River. It connects village centers, historic sites, and riverfront parks. It is a collaboration between Westchester County, waterfront municipalities, and not-for-profit organizations.

Currently, 32 miles of the trail are complete. The most urgently needed section is a 0.9-mile gap beneath the Cuomo Bridge between Green Street and Van Wart Avenue.

A local effort to close this gap began in 2014 and is led by the Village of Tarrytown in partnership with Westchester County and Scenic Hudson. A feasibility study and 30% design have been completed to ensure the project is shovel-ready.

In 2022, Westchester County included $1.3 million in its capital budget to conduct an environmental review of the project. The Village will be the lead agency for this process and will collaborate with Westchester County, Scenic Hudson, Metro-North Railroad, New York State Thruway Authority, and residents to make sure the extension is safe, secure, and shovel-ready.

Sunnyside

The Hudson River has been the lifeblood of New York for centuries, and Tarrytown NY is home to some of the most breathtaking waterfront attractions in the area. The town is also surrounded by nature and offers ample outdoor space for relaxing, picnicking, and enjoying the natural beauty of this picturesque region.

One of the best things to do in Tarrytown is to visit Sunnyside, a historic estate that was once the home of famous author Washington Irving. The property has been restored and visitors can tour the mansion to see how Irving envisioned the perfect place to write.

While you’re here, take a stroll on the Scenic Hudson RiverWalk Park to see the scenic Hudson River sweeping past and offering a view of the faint Manhattan skyline. This segment of the planned 51-mile RiverWalk is adjacent to Pierson Park and features a riverside esplanade, grass terraces, and lawns, and an eco-corridor packed with native plants. Here is another spot to visit.

Lyndhurst Mansion

One of America’s finest Gothic Revival mansions is Lyndhurst, designed in 1838 by Alexander Jackson Davis and located in a park-like setting overlooking the Hudson River. This home, occupied by three families throughout its heyday, is now a National Historic Landmark and is open to visitors.

With a full restoration of its grounds underway, you can experience the beauty of this estate firsthand as it transforms its landscape and implements tours of restored structures. The project aims to bring the 67-acre parkland back to its former glory and includes replanting the rockeries, kitchen garden, pear orchard, and tree house.

As you tour the mansion, you will be able to enjoy many of its unique spaces, including the recently-restored bowling alley, majestic landscape, and observation tower that offers an unobstructed view of the lower Hudson River Valley to Manhattan. The mansion is also a popular location for weddings, concerts, and juried craft shows.

Washington Irving

Tarrytown is a picturesque village known for its historic buildings, trendy taco joints, and cozy cafes. It’s also home to the estate of Washington Irving, author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

The author lived in Tarrytown, and his home is a museum open to the public. Tours include viewing the personal items that inspired his writing.

In addition to its rich literary heritage, Tarrytown is a popular tourist destination for tourists from all over the world. It offers scenic Hudson River trails, exquisite heritage buildings, and beautiful gardens.
